We would rather be accurate than impressive. This page sets out what these tools can and cannot do.

Conversion accuracy

Converting between document formats is inherently lossy. Word, PowerPoint and Excel conversions reconstruct content rather than reproduce a page exactly, so fonts, pagination and complex layouts will differ from the original. PDF to PowerPoint produces slides containing page images, not editable text boxes. Always review output before relying on it.

OCR accuracy

Optical character recognition is a statistical process. Clean, high-resolution scans give good results; handwriting, poor scans and unusual fonts give noticeably worse ones. Never assume OCR output is accurate without reading it.

Security claims

We do not claim this site is "100% secure", "unhackable", "DDoS-proof" or "guaranteed private". No website can honestly claim any of that. What we do claim is specific and testable: browser-based tools process files locally, we operate no document storage, and we apply standard web security controls. Our security documentation (SECURITY.md in the repository) describes these controls and their limits.

Password protection

Protect PDF implements the PDF Standard Security Handler using RC4 at 40-bit, chosen for universal reader compatibility. This deters casual access. It is not strong modern cryptography and should not be your only safeguard for genuinely sensitive material.

Signatures (planned tool)

Sign PDF (in development) will apply a visible signature image. It is not a certificate-backed cryptographic digital signature. Where legal non-repudiation is required, use a qualified electronic signature provider.

Redaction (planned tool)

Redact PDF (in development) will rasterize redacted pages so hidden text is genuinely removed rather than merely covered. Even so, verify the output yourself before releasing a sensitive document. Redaction mistakes have caused serious real-world disclosures.
